Speaking at the opening of the program, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Duy Hoa - Rector of Hanoi University of Civil Engineering expressed his gratitude to the Italian Embassy in Vietnam for always trusting the University in the role of a companion and direct participation in the Program's activities over the years. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Duy Hoa shared: “This year, the theme of IDD is a humanistic theme associated with the sustainable development goal of the United Nations. In November 2021, within the framework of the Conference on the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26), Vietnam demonstrated a strong commitment to the sustainable development as it aims to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. To accomplish this goal, Vietnam needs a generation of knowledgeable designers, experts, and scientists who are not only good at the field of design - creativity but also master in engineering - technology. From that point, it is possible to create products that are both aesthetic and energy-saving to ensure the sustainable development goal. That is also in the strategic direction of Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, which is to develop training programs with interdisciplinary nature and international integration. Thereby, trained architects and engineers have both design knowledge and technology knowledge.”

Speaking at the program, Ambassador Antonio Alessandro thanked Hanoi University of Civil Engineering for always accompanying the Embassy in organizing the Italian Design Day. Ambassador Antonio Alessandro shared: “Design plays a fundamental role in reshaping our habitats and inter-city mobility. By 2050, two-thirds of the world's population will live in urban areas. Therefore, it is important to rethink the relationship between people and territories, between objects and the space around us. Vietnam and Italy are both affected by the climate change. At last year's COP-26 in Glasgow, Vietnam joined hands with the international community to commit to net zero emissions by 2050. Italian Design Day aims to explore ideas and solutions that can contribute to the efforts of Vietnam in transition to a green economy, a circular economy, and reduction of carbon emissions.”
