MEETING OF THE NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR THE PERFECTION OF THE HIGH-QUALITY ENGINEER EDUCATION PROGRAM IN VIETNAM, 2023

On November 21st, 2023, Hanoi University of Civil Engineering (HUCE) solemnly organized the meeting of the National Council for the Perfection of the High-Quality Engineer Education Program in Vietnam (PFIEV) to summarize activities for the 2022-2023 school year and to provide operational directions for the 2023-2024 school year.

Overview of the Meeting

Attending the meeting, on the French side were: Mr. Denis FOURMEAU - Representative of the French Embassy in Vietnam; Mr. Thibaut SKRZYPEK - Spokesperson of the French School Complex; and Representatives in charge of PFIEV in French Schools. On the side of Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, there was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Tung - Rector of Hanoi University of Civil Engineering; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Xuan Anh - Vice Rector, Head of High-Quality Engineer Education Project at HUCE; Dr. Tong Ngoc Tu - Head of High-Quality Engineer Education and Management Department; Representatives of leaders of departments and faculties in the school, Heads of PFIEV majors; lecturers in charge of Mathematics, Physics, Foreign Languages and lecturers and staff of the High-Quality Engineer Education and Management Department.

Speaking at the opening of the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Tung - Rector of Hanoi University of Civil Engineering welcomed and thanked for the attention and support from the French Embassy in Vietnam and the complex of French partner schools for the PFIEV program.  Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Tung said that the PFIEV program was the first program to achieve the international quality accreditation and was one of the successful training programs at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering. This is also an effective training program from the French-Vietnamese cooperation between HUCE and French partner universities, which has trained many high-quality engineers working both domestically and internationally. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Tung believed that PFIEV's member schools and the consortium of French partner schools would jointly continue to develop the PFIEV high-quality engineer brand.

Speaking at the Meeting, Mr. Denis FOURMEAU - Attaché of Scientific and University Cooperation of the French Embassy in Vietnam highly appreciated the achievements of the PFIEV program, the high-quality educational cooperation program between Vietnam and France. Mr. Denis FOURMEAU also pledged that the French Government, through the French Embassy, would continue supporting and accompanying the PFIEV program in Vietnam, creating favorable conditions and giving priority to students in the PFIEV program.

On behalf of the High-Quality Engineer Education Project at HUCE, Dr. Tong Ngoc Tu - Head of High-Quality Engineer Education and Management Department presented a report summarizing the activities of the High-Quality Engineer Education Program at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering for the 2022-2023 school year (admissions and branch examinations; graduation and employment after graduation; connecting with businesses and alumni; training - scientific research - innovation of PFIEV students, ...). At the same time, he proposed operational directions for the next school year 2023-2024.

After listening to the report, the French expert delegation had the comprehensive view on all program activities that took place in the past year. The French expert delegation highly appreciated the efforts and results achieved by PFIEV of HUCE in the past year in all fields mentioned in the summary report. In addition, the two sides discussed Creating more favorable conditions to attract enrollment for the program; Exchanging lecturers from French schools to teach PFIEV students, exchanging students; Ability to open new majors; Promoting cooperation with the French business sector through the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Vietnam (CCIFV) to help students have more internship and recruitment opportunities; Supporting and sharing experiences from French partner schools in compiling guidance documents for the general stage...

The meeting ended successfully with the high agreement between the two sides on the direction of activities in the coming year to further improve the PFIEV Program - the training program considered the most successful, typical for cooperation on higher education between France and Vietnam.

The High-Quality Engineer Education Program (PFIEV) is a bilateral cooperation project that has been implemented by the Government of Vietnam and the French Republic since 1999. The program is implemented at 4 prestigious higher education institutions of Vietnam: Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, The University of Danang – University of Science and Technology, and Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City – Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology with the collaboration of a consortium of leading French universities, including: National School of Bridges and Roads (ENPC), Louis Le Grand High School, IMT Atlantique School, Lyon National Institute of Applied Sciences (INSA Lyon), Grenoble Institute of National Polytechnic (Grenoble INP), Centrale Supélec, Marseille Polytechnic University (Polytech Marseille), Poitiers National University of Mechanics and Aeronautical Engineering (ENSMA).

The Council for Perfection of the High-Quality Engineer Education Program (PFIEV) holds an annual meeting to evaluate the performance results of the previous year and provide operational directions for the following year to help the program always improve according to European and international higher education standards.
