On the afternoon of February 26, 2021, NUCE held an online meeting to launch the project " Optimization of environmental impacts of construction projects in residential areas". The project aims to enhance the long-term economic value of the Vietnam-Belgium cooperation relationship, building life-long partnerships between several academic institutions, civil organizations and businesses.
Attending the online meeting, on the KU-Leuven side, there were Prof. Hilde Breesch – Research team leader, Prof. Alexis Versele, Dr. Cihan Kayacetin, Representative of the international office. On VSSE's side, there was Ms. Tran Thi Thu Phuong - Founder of the VSSE network. On the side of NUCE, there were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Giang - Vice Rector; Dr. Truong Ngoc Lan - Vice Dean of Faculty of Architecture and Planning; Dr. Nguyen Thanh Trung - Vice Dean of Faculty of Environmental Engineering; Dr. Do Quoc Hoang - Head of Information & Communication Department, Lecturer at Faculty of Information Technology; Dr. Pham Thi Hai Ha - Faculty of Architecture and Planning; Dr. Nguyen Tien Dung - Head of International Cooperation Department.
Overview of the online meeting
KU Leuven and NUCE have has cooperated to organize several activities and achieved promising results. In the field of education and training, the two sides have been implementing joint postgraduate training programs. The project " Optimization of environmental impacts of construction projects in residential areas" is expected to be the first project in the series of further potential collaborated projects. It is a trend that more and more projects on Multi-national, multi-field, and multi-party cooperation are run worldwide. This project is carried out under the program of Global Mind Fund, with the participation of researchers from Belgium and Vietnam in many fields such as Architecture, Environmental Engineering, Information Technology, etc. – stated by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hoang Giang. The Rector believes that the project will hit a great success, effectively contributing to the field of urban development research in Vietnam. On behalf of NUCE, Giang sent his sincere thanks to the Global Minds Fund for sponsoring the project, KU Leuven and Prof. Hilde Breesch who has cooperated with NUCE in registering to participate in this project and hopes to receive further support in the future.

The project " Optimization of environmental impacts of construction projects in residential areas" was kicked off on February 26, 2021 due to December 31, 2021. It aims to identify (1) urban development issues in two countries; (2) building practical operational models from fine inputs from the public, private and academic institutions including an urban development research framework, a civil society forum to strengthen joint ownership rights of urban spaces; (3) Decision-making model for businesses using information technology and big data. The project's products include Consulting, recommending to the community the renovation of residential areas, reconstruction of residential areas; The consulting aspect includes urban physics and building, materials flow management, urban resources employment, and data management.
At the meeting, the parties agreed to cooperate within the project framework and officially signed a cooperation agreement and discussed the core value of the project as well as the method of coordination in the next step of project implementation. In conclusion, VSSE, KU Leuven and NUCE agreed to cooperate within the framework of the project " Optimization of environmental impacts of construction projects in residential areas" taking place throughout 2021 to solve the urban development problems in both Vietnam and Belgium. In addition, the parties fully agreed that the focus of the project included research and survey tasks, data collection and workshop organization. Simultaneously, the project builds connections with experts and civil society organizations from which to build a practical operation model.
