Online conference on “The reality of solid waste management and planning of Hanoi’s districts”

On the afternoon of March 18, 2022, the National University of Civil Engineering (NUCE) cooperated with Hanoi Department of Natural Resources and Environment to successfully organize a webinar entitled " The reality of solid waste management and planning of Hanoi’s districts".

Overview of the blended Conference

This workshop is one of the serial activities of the SATREPS project entitled “Establish an effective construction waste management system to control environmental pollution and enhance the possibility of manufacturing new materials from recycled construction waste in Vietnam” funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). 

At the broadcasting station of Hanoi Department of Natural Resources and Environment:

On the side of NUCE, there was the presence of Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hoang Giang, Vice Rector, Project Director of Satreps and representatives who are leaders of the Project Management Board and leaders of departments and faculties of the University.

On the side of state management agencies, there was the presence of Mr. Mai Trong Thai, Deputy Director, along with leaders, representatives of functional departments, Environmental Protection Sub-Department of Hanoi Department of Natural Resources and Environment; Hanoi Department of Science and Technology; Hanoi Department of Construction.

At other 20 broadcasting stations, there was the presence of Ms. Ono Takako Program Advisor, JICA Vietnam; Prof. Ken Kawamoto, Saitama University Japan, Co-director of the Satreps project; Dr. Tomonori Ishigaki from Japan National Institute of Environment; experts from NUCE, and leaders of Global Company.

At this seminar, experts and the Department discussed concerning issues related to Solid waste management and classification in Hanoi’s districts; Legal framework, and mechanisms and policies on solid waste management in Vietnam; Current status and proposals to improve the quality of construction solid waste management in Hanoi.

At the end of the discussion, all participants reach a consensus on a sustainable solid waste management project in Hanoi in the period 2021 – 2025, a vision for 2050. The project was fully expected to formulate and implement. Additionally, it is recommended to issue technical guidelines for classification and standards of recyclable materials from solid construction waste soon with a view to controlling quality and promoting an application in construction works. All delegates also expressed their expectation to immediately establish the Council to promote the recycling of solid construction waste in the city.
