A delegation from Hanoi University of Civil Engineering visited and worked with Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology (China).

From September 9th to 13th, 2026, a delegation from Hanoi University of Civil Engineering (HUCE), led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Xuan Anh – Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice Rector of the University, along with Dr. Nguyen Cao Lanh, Head of the Faculty of Architecture and Planning, and Ms. Nghiem Ha Tan, Deputy Head of the Department of External Relations and International Cooperation, visited and participated in the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the merger and 130th anniversary of the training tradition of Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology (XAUAT), China. The visit was a great success with many practical activities, opening a new phase of extensive cooperation between the two universities.

During the working visit, the Hanoi University of Civil Engineering delegation conducted in-depth professional working sessions with five units affiliated with Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology (XAUAT):

During the working sessions, leaders from both sides recognized many striking similarities between Hanoi University of Civil Engineering and Hanoi University of Architecture (HUE) and XAUAT: both originating from a long-standing tradition of training in the construction and architecture fields, both developing three pillars of activity in parallel – training, scientific research, and production (design consulting), and both sharing the aspiration to become leading technical higher education institutions not only in their respective countries but also internationally. In this spirit, the two sides agreed on several specific cooperation directions, including: establishing a mechanism for regular faculty and student exchange; researching and implementing joint training programs following the 2+2 or 2+3 model in the fields of Construction Engineering, Architecture, and Urban Planning; promoting joint scientific research projects and co-publishing internationally with a focus on green, sustainable, smart development and the application of artificial intelligence; and connecting cooperation in design consulting and technology transfer between institutes and enterprises affiliated with the two universities.

Also on this occasion, the Faculty of Architecture of XAUAT held a welcoming ceremony for 8 students from Hanoi University of Civil Engineering who will be participating in a one-semester exchange program. Over the next three months, the students will study and complete their projects in Xi'an under the guidance of XAUAT faculty.

Attending the University Presidents' Forum and XAUAT Anniversary Celebration:

The Hanoi University of Civil Engineering delegation attended the University Presidents' Forum on Sustainable Development for Humanity through Architecture and Technology, with the participation of leaders from 27 international universities. At the forum, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Xuan Anh delivered a speech on the topic "Connecting Thang Long and Truong An: Shared Heritage, Shared Future in Architecture and Technology," recalling the history of the two ancient capitals – Thang Long (ascending dragon) and Truong An (eternal peace) – to discuss the parallel development journey between Hanoi University of Civil Engineering and XAUAT. He emphasized: "Thang Long and Truong An in the past, Hanoi and Xi'an today, always look towards a common horizon of green and sustainable development," and affirmed that "the buildings and cities we build today will shape the lives of our children tomorrow." The speech received enthusiastic applause from the delegates.

The Hanoi University of Civil Engineering delegation also attended the 70th anniversary celebration and 130th anniversary training tradition of XAUAT – a momentous event that brought together numerous international partners, with the participation and congratulations of Mr. Zhao Yide, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Secretary of the Shaanxi Provincial Party Committee, and Mr. Song Youchun, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of China. On behalf of Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, the delegation presented commemorative gifts and the warmest congratulations to the leadership and staff of XAUAT.

Visiting key laboratories

During the trip, the Hanoi University of Civil Engineering delegation visited and worked at three leading key laboratories of XAUAT: the National Key Laboratory of Green Buildings, the Key Laboratory of Structural Engineering and Seismic Resistance (at the level of the Chinese Ministry of Education), and the Key Laboratory of Geotechnical Engineering and Underground Works (at the level of Shaanxi Province).

The two sides discussed the possibility of conducting joint research and sharing resources and laboratory equipment. XAUAT expressed its willingness to share its experience to advise and support the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) in the process of building and developing national key laboratories – a task of significant importance given that the University has been entrusted by the Prime Minister to become one of Vietnam's key higher education institutions in engineering. Looking ahead to the 60th anniversary of UET, during the working visit, the University leadership extended a formal invitation to the high-level delegation from XAUAT to visit and attend the 60th anniversary and 70th anniversary of UET's training tradition, scheduled to be held in Hanoi in November this year. This is seen as proof of the friendship and increasingly strong cooperative relationship between the two universities. The working visit to Xi'an concluded with many practical results, opening up a phase of deeper cooperation between Hanoi University of Civil Engineering and XAUAT in the fields of training, scientific research, and technology transfer, aiming towards the common goal of sustainable development of both countries.
