Precast Academy Workshop: Promoting the Application of Precast Concrete Technology in Vietnam

On May 26, 2026, Hanoi University of Civil Engineering (HUCE), in collaboration with Elematic (Finland) and Nguyen Vinh Company, organized the Precast Academy Workshop – Precast Concrete Technology in Vietnam. The event served as a forum connecting experts, businesses, and training institutions to share experiences, update on new technological trends, and promote the application of modern, sustainable construction solutions in Vietnam.

Overview of the conference

Attending the seminar were Mr. Pekka Voutilainen – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Finland to Vietnam; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Giang – Vice Rector of Hanoi University of Civil Engineering; Mr. Timo Välttilä – Senior Business Director of Elematic, along with numerous experts, lecturers, and businesses operating in the construction sector from Vietnam and Finland.

Professor Dr. Nguyen Hoang Giang – Vice Rector of the University, delivered the opening remarks at the workshop.

In his opening remarks at the workshop, Professor Nguyen Hoang Giang – Vice Rector of the University – emphasized that in the context of the construction industry undergoing a strong shift towards industrialization, greening, and digital transformation, precast concrete technology is considered one of the important solutions to improve labor productivity, control construction quality, shorten construction time, and reduce environmental impact.

According to Professor Nguyen Hoang Giang, Hanoi University of Civil Engineering is currently one of five higher education institutions designated as key areas for development in engineering and technology, as per Decision No. 452/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister. Architecture and construction are identified as key national sectors. The university is promoting a "three-party" linkage model involving the State, the University, and businesses to enhance the training of high-quality human resources, promote scientific research, technology transfer, and the application of advanced construction solutions, leading up to the university's 60th anniversary.

Mr. Pekka Voutilainen – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Finland to Vietnam, delivered a speech at the seminar.

Within the framework of the workshop, experts from Finland and Vietnam presented many exemplary projects applying precast concrete technology, and shared experiences in implementing it in large-scale construction projects around the world. The presentations focused on trends in construction development. Industrialization and automation in the production of components and solutions to reduce carbon emissions in the construction industry.

Experts presenting at the workshop

Assessing the development potential of this technology, experts believe that precast concrete is becoming an inevitable trend in the global construction industry thanks to its ability to save materials, reduce CO₂ emissions, improve construction quality, and accelerate construction progress. In Finland – considered one of the cradles of precast concrete technology – more than 95% of current residential and high-rise office buildings are constructed using precast solutions.

According to forecasts shared at the conference, to meet the demands of urbanization and industrialization in the construction sector, Vietnam may need approximately 50 professional precast concrete component manufacturing plants by 2035 and around 200 plants by 2040.

The delegates took a commemorative photo.

The Precast Academy workshop not only provided valuable professional information on precast concrete technology but also contributed to strengthening cooperation between businesses, experts, and training institutions in Vietnam and Finland. This, in turn, promotes the technological transition process. To develop the construction industry towards a modern, sustainable direction, saving energy and reducing carbon emissions in the future.
