On September 21, 2026, Hanoi University of Civil Engineering (HUCE) received and held a working meeting with a delegation from the School of Environment – Tsinghua University (China).

This event is part of a series of key cooperation activities coinciding with both sides' participation in the 2026 China-Vietnam Environmental Governance Forum in Hanoi, aiming to connect training, scientific research, and jointly develop projects to address practical environmental challenges in the capital city.

Bilateral reception and strategic cooperation orientation at HUCE

Attending the reception and working session at HUCE, on behalf of the Faculty of Environment – Tsinghua University:

• Professor Shuming Liu – Head of the Environmental Science Department;
• Professor Yong Qiu – Director of the Public Service Research Platform;
• Mr. Xi Zhao – Vice President of the Tsinghua Institute for Environmental Innovation Research (Suzhou Branch).

On behalf of Hanoi University of Civil Engineering (HUCE):

• Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Giang – Vice Rector of the University;
• Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Viet Phuong – Head of the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation;
• Prof. Dr. Nguyen Viet Anh – Director of the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology;
• Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Viet Nga – Director of the Vietnam-Japan Institute of Advanced Technology;
• Architect Hoang Thuc Hao – Vice President of the Vietnam Association of Architects;
• Dr. Nguyen Tien Dung – Head of the Department of External Relations and International Cooperation;

Together with the Heads of specialized teams from the Faculty of Environmental Engineering: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Ngoc Quang (Microclimate), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Minh Giang (Environmental Technology and Management), and Dr. Nguyen Thanh Trung (Energy and Environment).

During the exchange, the leaders of the two universities affirmed their increasingly close and extensive partnership. Both sides engaged in lively discussions and agreed on key areas of cooperation for the future:

1. Academic Exchange & Training: Promote exchange programs for students, graduate students, researchers, lecturers, and leading experts and professors.
2. Enhancing R&D and Technology Transfer Capacity: Coordinating the organization of international scientific conferences and conducting joint research projects on environmental protection and sustainable urban development.
3. Addressing practical local problems: Both sides agreed to cooperate in developing technical plans and projects to directly solve these problems. c) Continuing to address urgent environmental issues (such as air pollution, wastewater treatment, and waste management) in accordance with the direction and guidance of the Hanoi City People's Committee.
4. Practical implementation mechanism: Designate direct contact points to urgently develop detailed action plans and promptly realize cooperation commitments.

During the working visit, the Tsinghua University delegation toured HUCE's modern laboratory system (such as the SATREPS Laboratory and specialized labs in the Department of Environmental Engineering). Professor Shuming Liu and the experts from Tsinghua University highly appreciated the scale, systematic investment, and research capabilities of HUCE's lab system, affirming that this will be a solid infrastructure foundation to effectively support collaborative research projects between the two universities.

Professional contributions at the China-Vietnam Environmental Governance Forum 2026

Also on September 21, 2026, in Hanoi, representatives from Hanoi University of Civil Engineering actively participated in the China-Vietnam Environmental Governance Forum 2026.

The forum was jointly organized by the Hanoi People's Committee, the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, the School of Environment - Tsinghua University, and the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment.

Contributing to the Forum's professional success, representatives from Hanoi University of Civil Engineering presented two scientific papers:

• Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duc Luong – Head of the Faculty of Environmental Engineering (HUCE) presented a paper on the topic: "Low-Emission Zone Planning in Hanoi: Implementation Roadmap, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Recommendations for Scaling Up" .
• Professor Dr. Nguyen Viet Anh – Director of the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (HUCE) presented a paper on the topic: "Digital transformation of Vietnam's water supply and drainage sector: Current status and development roadmap" .

The papers presented insightful scientific arguments and practical solutions with high applicability, receiving significant attention and high praise from management agencies, scientists, and the business communities of both countries.

The series of bilateral receptions and participation in the China-Vietnam Environmental Governance Forum 2026 has affirmed the prestige and position of Hanoi University of Civil Engineering in the international cooperation network. This will be an important stepping stone to open up a path of extensive cooperation, bringing many practical scientific achievements and making positive contributions to the green and sustainable development of Hanoi and the whole country.
