The 5th joint coordination committee meeting and the consultation conference of SATREPS Project

On the morning of June 23, 2022, Hanoi University of Civil Engineering successfully held the 5th Joint Coordination Committee of SATREPS Project (JCC)  "Establishment of Environmentally Sound Management of Construction and Demolition Waste and Its Wise Utilization for Environmental Pollution Control and for New Recycled Construction Materials in Vietnam” sponsored by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) for the period 2018 - 2023.

Attending at the bridge point of Hanoi University of Civil Engineering were: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Duy Hoa - Rector, Chairman of JCC; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Giang - Vice Rector, Project Director; Prof. Dr. Phan Quang Minh - Project Manager; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Ngoc Anh - Director General of Department of Science - Technology and Environment, Ministry of Construction, Member of JCC; Dr. Nguyen Trung Thang - Deputy Director of Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment; MSc. Nguyen Khanh Long - Head of Solid Waste Department, Technical Infrastructure Agency, Ministry of Construction; Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung - Head of Technical Infrastructure Department, Hanoi Department of Construction and representatives of Department for Planning and Finance, Ministry of Education and Training; Hanoi Department of Natural Resources and Environment and experts who are teachers/researchers and project members represent leaders of departments and faculties of the University. The representatives of Japan were: Prof. Ken Kawamoto - Saitama University, Project Co-Director; Prof. Tetsuo Konaka - Saitama University, Former Chief Representative of JICA Vietnam and experts of JICA Vietnam.
At online bridge points in Japan and Vietnam, there were: Mr. Hitoshi Toriyama - Second Secretary of the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam; Mr. Naomichi Murooka - Deputy Chief Representative of JICA Vietnam; Prof. Yukari Takamura - Research Supervisor, University of Tokyo, Program Manager of SATREPS, Japan Science and Technology Agency and experts from Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), Saitama University, Center for Environmental Science in Saitama (CESS), National Institute for Environmental Studies of Japan (NIES).

At the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Duy Hoa - Rector of the University, President of JCC shared, After the Covid epidemic for more than 2 years, Hanoi University of Civil Engineering again welcomed members of the Council directly to evaluate the research results achieved over the past 4 years, as well as to direct the work plan for the following year. Through the presentations, the Council highly appreciated the results achieved in the past time and agreed to add one more member - Hanoi Department of Natural Resources and Environment to participate in the project; and at the same time proposed to extend the project implementation for another year until the end of January 2024.

In the afternoon of the same day, the delegation of experts from the Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, Saitama University and JICA Vietnam also attended the consultation conference to establish the Working Group on Management and Recycling of Hanoi Construction Solid Waste led by Mr. Mai Trong Thai, Deputy Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment. It is hoped that the Working Group consisting of members representing relevant state management agencies, Japanese and Vietnamese experts, recycling companies, etc. will soon be established to propose strategies and solutions to promote investment and increase recycling of construction solid waste for Hanoi city in particular and the whole country in general.
