Workshop introducing "Residential Planning and Design Towards a Health-Oriented City"

Following a period of collaborative project implementation, on September 19, 2024, Hanoi University of Civil Engineering (HUCE), the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) - Federal Republic of Germany, and a group of experts from the University of Hamburg (UHH) - Federal Republic of Germany jointly organized a workshop to launch the "Handbook on Planning and Design of Residential Areas Towards Health Cities in Vietnam".

The workshop aimed to report on the results of the HOPE cooperation program and introduce and widely disseminate the content of the Handbook to interested readers. On behalf of the expert group, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Tuan - Head of the Center for Sustainable Construction Capacity Development in Vietnam (CCSB-VN) , Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, presented an overview of the HOPE program, assessed the implementation results, and highlighted the cooperation between partners KAS-UHH-Hanoi University of Civil Engineering. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai - Lecturer in the Faculty of Architecture & Planning, Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, presented an overview and the effectiveness of the approach of the “Handbook on Planning and Design of Residential Areas Towards a Health-City in Vietnam”.

During the discussion, experts and delegates unanimously agreed that the Handbook is one of Vietnam's first research products that approaches the field of Architecture - Planning - Construction by prioritizing the health of residents over technical aspects. Experts believe that the concise content in the Handbook will contribute to improving knowledge and supporting officials working in urban planning, management, construction management, designers, and policymakers in adopting a holistic approach to human health in sustainable urban environments in Vietnam. Experts hope that the research team will continue to build upon the value of the recent research to publish a handbook, thereby further expanding the research results and providing more useful resources for scientists, managers, and the community in innovating thinking about environmental planning and design towards a healthier, more inclusive, and greener life in urban residential areas in Vietnam.
