On January 15, 2026, a solemn ceremony was held in Cao Son commune, Phu Tho province, to present a "House of Compassion" to the family of Mr. Xa Van Ngoc, a household facing exceptionally difficult circumstances in the locality.
The "House of Compassion" project is the result of technology transfer from the "DEVELOPMENT OF GREEN COMPRESSED CLAY BRICKS TOWARDS VIETNAM'S ZERO NET EMISSION COMMITMENT" PROJECT , funded by ARES (Belgium). This is a collaborative scientific research and innovation initiative between Phenikaa University, Liège University (Belgium), and Hanoi University of Civil Engineering (HUE), with the support of Vietcombank. After receiving the technology transfer, people in Cao Son commune have directly produced non-fired clay bricks and constructed houses using this type of brick.
The "House of Compassion" project in Diều Nọi, along with eight other charitable houses built in various localities such as Cao Bằng, Phú Thọ, Nghệ An, etc., is a clear testament to the effectiveness of the " Development of Green Linked Stable Compressed Earth Bricks (CSEB) for environmentally friendly housing" solution. This solution was recently awarded the Special Prize - Breakthrough Innovation category at the "EU-Vietnam Sustainable Design 2025" competition organized by the Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam.
The ceremony was attended by Mr. Karl Van den Bossche - Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Vietnam, representatives of the Wallonie-Bruxelles Delegation, Kingdom of Belgium. Representing Phenika University were Prof. Dr. Pham Thanh Huy - Vice General Director, and Dr. Nguyen Quoc Dinh - Deputy Head of the Department of External Cooperation. Representing Hanoi University of Civil Engineering were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Quang Dung - Deputy Head of the Department of External Relations and International Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trung Hieu - Head of the Construction Testing and Inspection Group, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Tuan - Head of the Construction Materials Group, along with representatives from the Cao Son Commune People's Committee and the sponsor, Vietcombank.
Representatives from the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium, leaders of Cao Son commune People's Committee, Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, Phenikaa University, and sponsor Vietcombank presented a "House of Compassion" to the family of Mr. Xa Van Ngoc.
Speaking at the ceremony with the message "Every brick builds hope," Mr. Karl Van den Bossche shared emotionally: this project is completely the opposite of the spirit of separation in the song "The Wall." Here, each brick not only creates a wall, but also contributes to building hope for a decent home for disadvantaged families in underprivileged areas.
Mr. Karl Van den Bossche – Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Vietnam, delivered a speech at the award ceremony.
The "House of Compassion" project not only demonstrates the intellect and dedication of Vietnamese scientists from Hanoi University of Civil Engineering and Phenikaa University, but also affirms the effectiveness of international cooperation projects in research and technology transfer into practice. At the same time, the project strongly promotes the spirit of scientific research coupled with social responsibility and directly contributes to the goal of net zero emissions by 2050 of China. cute; Vietnamese government.
Family, neighbors, scientists, and the government all joined hands to build the House of Compassion.
Scientists introduced the production process and outstanding characteristics of unburnt clay bricks to the Ambassador.
