International Workshop “New Technological Solutions for Addressing Water Pollution Issues”

On the afternoon of December 11, 2025, the Hanoi University of Civil Engineering (HUE) hosted the international workshop "New Technological Solutions in Addressing Water Pollution Issues," part of the SATREPS Project "Developing Water Supply Systems Adapting to Water Pollution." The program was organized in a hybrid format, combining in-person and online participation, and attracted numerous scientists, experts, and businesses from Vietnam and Japan.

Overview of the Conference

Attending the meeting, on the Japanese side were Mr. Shinoda Takanobu – Deputy Chief Representative of JICA Vietnam; Professor Fujioka Takahiro – Project Manager of SATREPS Project on the Japanese side, Head of Working Groups 1, 2, 3 & 5, Nagasaki University. On the Vietnamese side were Mr. Cao Van Quy – Deputy General Director of Hai Phong Water Supply Joint Stock Company; Professor Tran Thi Viet Nga – Project Manager of SATREPS Project on the Vietnamese side; experts and members of the Project; and lecturers and students of the University.

Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Viet Nga - Project Manager of SATREPS Vietnam, Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Environmental Engineering, Hanoi University of Civil Engineering

In her opening remarks at the workshop, Professor Tran Thi Viet Nga, the Vietnamese Project Manager of SATREPS, emphasized the significant importance of Vietnam-Japan cooperation in the field of clean water, especially in the context of climate change, water pollution, and the increasing demand for advanced treatment technologies. Professor Tran Thi Viet Nga affirmed that the workshop provided an opportunity for scientists from both countries to share research results and discuss new approaches to contribute to building a sustainable water supply system in Vietnam.

Professor Takahiro Fujioka of Nagasaki University, the Japanese Project Leader of SATREPS, presented an overview of the SATREPS Project.

Immediately following the opening ceremony, Professor Takahiro Fujioka of Nagasaki University, the Japanese Project Leader of SATREPS, presented an overview of the SATREPS Project and updated the progress of the research components being implemented in Vietnam. The project focuses on developing membrane technology, online analysis technology, and advanced water treatment solutions, aiming towards a model. The water supply system is capable of adapting to the increasingly complex pollution of raw water sources.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Viet Cuong – Lecturer in the Faculty of Environmental Engineering, Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, presented his research at the conference.

At the conference, many new research findings were shared and presented, revolving around key topics such as: Membrane Application Research; Membrane Fabrication/Modification Research; and Water Treatment Research. In addition to professional reports, the conference also included presentations from companies such as Fuso, Kyowakiden, HWC, etc., introducing commercialized solutions in the field of water treatment, contributing to the connection between scientific research and practical application.

The closing session of the workshop also featured a lively discussion with many opinions on the potential application of new technologies to water management and treatment practices in Vietnam.

The delegates attending the workshop took a commemorative photo.

The workshop "New Technological Solutions for Polluted Water Treatment" is a testament to the close cooperation between Japan and Vietnam within the framework of the SATREPS Project, which will continue to be strongly promoted in the future towards a sustainable, safe, and adaptable water supply system.
