On September 9, 2022, in SaPa town, Lao Cai, the group of 7 technical universities (Group "G7") including: Hanoi University of Science and Technology, University of Science and Technology – The University of Da Nang, Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, University of Transport and Communications, Hanoi University of Mining and Geology, Thuy Loi University, and Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, jointly signed the Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in the field of Science - Technology and Innovation. Attending the ceremony were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Minh Son - Deputy Minister of Education and Training, former Rector of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Founder of the group of 7 technical Universities; Mr. Nguyen Tam Tinh - Director of Dong Ta Phoi - Vinacomin Company; and comrades who are the Rectors and Chairmen of the School Councils of 7 member schools in the group. With the goal of jointly developing cooperation on scientific research activities, technology transfer, innovation, academic exchange, scientific announcement and publication; scientific and technological cooperation in service of socio-economic development of localities/sectors; international cooperation in science and technology to support and improve the effectiveness of the implementation of the Vision, Mission and Development Strategy of each University; the schools have agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on the following specific cooperation contents: 1. Proposing, developing and implementing inter-university, inter-disciplinary and inter-regional scientific research and innovation programs and tasks in order to successfully implement sustainable development goals in Vietnam. 2. Building strong inter-university and inter-disciplinary research groups, especially in the following fields (but not limited to other fields): basic science; health science; earth science; agriculture and food security; robots; exact mechanics; internet of things; big data analytics; artificial intelligence; digital conversion; advanced materials; recycled energy; environmental protection and sustainable management of water resources; circular economy and labor productivity improvement, intelligent transportation, etc. 3. Allowing the coordination in the use of resources in terms of facilities and laboratories of each university in service of joint scientific and technological cooperation activities; sharing data on science and technology (experts, scientific research results, scientific data) on the basis of compliance with the provisions of the laws and regulations of each University. 4. Developing and implementing activities of academic exchange, announcing and publishing science, cooperating internationally on science and technology, applying new technologies, implementing digital transformation, writing scientific articles and scientific publication, connecting the system of Science and Technology Journals of seven Universities. 5. Coordinating to organize national and international scientific conferences in the field of science and technology proposed by one or many universities. 6. Cooperating with localities/ministries/sectors to carry out scientific tasks and technology transfer, which are strategic in service of socio-economic development.

At the ceremony, Rectors of 7 technical universities gave speeches about the potential of science, technology and innovation of their units. Along with that is the prospect of cooperation in this field among the schools in the group. Sending congratulations to 7 schools, Deputy Minister of Education and Training - Hoang Minh Son was very happy to hear about the development of the universities. It is very important for schools to cooperate with one another, helping schools to grow together. Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son used 3 keywords: “Cooperation, Change and Leadership’’ to wish the cooperation of schools, not only at 7 schools, but the schools would be the nucleus, the core of spreading, impacting on the whole Vietnamese higher education system. He hoped that the schools could play a pioneering and leading role in the Vietnamese higher education system. The Deputy Minister also stated that the schools should develop projects, programs, ideas, and propose policy changes. On that basis, together with the Ministry of Education and Training, they propose to the competent authorities.

Hopefully, the fact that the schools in the group signed a memorandum of understanding today will open a new page in promoting the development, stronger and more effective cooperation in the field of Science and technology - Innovation, contributing to the development of each school in particular, the development of the education and training industry, as well as the country's socio-economic development in general. This is the fourth time 7 schools have signed an agreement and cooperation memorandum. On June 27, 2020, 7 schools together signed a common principle in developing engineer training programs. On January 22, 2021, 7 schools signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement. Then, on April 1, 2022, 7 schools signed a memorandum of understanding on Communication and Admissions.
