INTRODUCING THE PROJECT "ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY HOUSE MODEL USING COMPRESSED STRAW BALES" - RESULTS OF THE REBUMAT PROJECT ON: RESOURCES - EFFICIENT CONSTRUCTION USING SUSTAINABLE BUILDING MATERIALS

Within the framework of the cooperation program between Hanoi University of Civil Engineering (HUCE) and Technical University of Applied Sciences Lubeck, Germany, on May 17, 2024, an environmentally friendly house model using compressed straw bales was introduced to experts, scientists and students of the Hanoi University of Civil Engineering. The model is a product and result of the implementation process of the ReBuMat Project on "Resources - Efficient construction using sustainable building materials". The model building process was demonstrated at the Experimental Training Facility of Hanoi University of Civil Engineering in Nam Cao University Area - Ha Nam.

Vietnam is one of the world's leading countries in rice export, and every year a large amount of agricultural waste is discharged into the environment. According to the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Vietnam has about 47 million tons of straw each year, but only more than 20% is collected and used for the purpose of making straw mushrooms, animal feed, and fruit transportation cushions, ... most of the remainder is mainly burned or buried in the fields. Experts from Technical University of Applied Sciences Lubeck, Fraunhofer IBP, Germany have participated and supported the development of partners in Vietnam in the field of sustainable and resource-efficient building materials in ReBuMat project on "Resources - Efficient construction using sustainable building materials". From the research results of the Project, the environmentally friendly house model using compressed straw bales is the first product in Vietnam supported by German experts in construction. Straw after harvesting rice is collected and processed and will be used as material for walls and roofs, based on wood structures. After being processed, the materials are resistant to fire, moisture, soundproof, heatproof and create comfort for users. Sensors are placed on the walls of the model to measure temperature and humidity between the inside and outside environments of the Straw House. The data will then be compared and evaluated to accurately report on the effectiveness of the model.

The Straw House model will be used long-term for research and technology transfer as a meaningful scientific product, a demonstration of cooperation between the Hanoi University of Civil Engineering and Technical University of Applied Sciences Lübeck. Hopefully, after the first product, many other projects will be built, contributing to supporting the effective use of agricultural waste products in Vietnam in particular and improving the efficiency of using sustainable building materials in general.
