Department of Offshore and Oil & Gas Engineering

FACULTY OF OFFSHORE AND OIL & GAS ENGINEERING

Faculty of Coastal and Offshore Engineering

(FCOFFSHORE)

1. Introduction

The Faculty of Coastal and Offshore Engineering ( FCOFFSHORE ) was established with the function of training high-quality human resources, conducting scientific research, and transferring advanced technology in the field of offshore, coastal, maritime, and energy engineering, in line with the orientation of sustainable marine economic development and international integration.

Since its establishment (March 10, 1988), the institution has graduated 32 cohorts of students (starting from cohort K33), producing over 1,600 Marine Engineering graduates, over 250 High-Quality Hydraulic Engineering Graduates (PFIEV), and over 130 masters and doctoral graduates in Marine Engineering.

Engineers trained in this field have promptly met the urgent need for human resources to implement the construction of offshore structures serving the development of the marine economy, such as offshore energy and oil and gas exploration projects, offshore platforms serving the protection of sovereignty in the Truong Sa (Spratly) Islands, coastal erosion control projects, and coastal economic development infrastructure projects. The community of offshore construction engineers has made many contributions to the country, gradually affirming the indispensable role of offshore construction engineering in the construction and development of the nation.

2. Development History

October 1, 1987

The first postgraduate course in Offshore Construction Engineering was offered at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Pham Khac Hung.

March 10, 1988

The "Offshore Construction Engineering" major was established, with Prof. Dr. Pham Khac Hung appointed as its first Head.
June 21, 1991 The Center for Offshore Construction Engineering ( CERATMER) was established, with Professor Dr. Pham Khac Hung as its Director.
June 11, 1996 The Institute for Training, Research, and Application of Offshore Engineering (ICOFFSHORE) was established.
September 25, 2002

Two departments were established under the Institute of Offshore Engineering:

  1. Department of Fundamentals of Marine and Coastal Engineering
  2. Department of Marine Engineering and Pipeline and Tank Construction
2014

Under Project 115, the Institute of Offshore Engineering (ICOOFFSHORE) was reorganized into:

  1. The Faculty of Offshore and Oil & Gas Engineering (FCOFFSHORE), responsible primarily for undergraduate and postgraduate education and scientific research.
  2. The Institute of Offshore Engineering (ICOOFFSHORE), responsible primarily for scientific research and practical applications.
